Despicable Me: Minion Rush hits 100m downloads with Minion Beach update

As big numbers go, this one’s big. The Despicable Me: Minion Rush game has now been downloaded 100m times on iPhone, iPad and Android according to its publisher Gameloft.

The game is proving hugely popular with children and parents alike, it seems. We’re not sure how many people have seen the actual film it’s based on, Despicable Me 2, but we’re guessing the mobile game downloads vastly outnumber bums on cinema seats, which is fascinating.

The 100m downloads came in less than three months since the game’s release. Gameloft says that people have played the game for more than 260m hours, and collected 2,000 billion of the game’s bananas.

The momentum looks set to continue too: having released one update including El Macho’s Lair and the purple Evil Minions from the movie. Now there’s another.

Available already for Android and “soon” on iPhone and iPad, it includes a new environment called Minion Beach (which you may remember from the film), and new beach-themed costumes for the Minion characters.
