Gigglebug app gets kids to ‘tickle grumpy animals’ on the touchscreen
Yep, sold. “Tickle grumpy animals and spread the laughter” is one of the better taglines we’ve seen for a children’s app this month. Meet Gigglebug.
Released by a developer of the same name, it’s described as “a new kind of app that lets kids play and laugh together with friends… based on the simple idea that laughter is contagious”.
The idea: your children help a character named Gigglebug to tickle his sour-faced animal friends, using simple touchscreen gestures. The illustration and animation look lovely, but we suspect most of the fun will come from the reactions of the children playing with it.
Judging by the official Gigglebug website, this is going to be a TV show as well as an app, with five-minute episodes based on Gigglebug and his forest friends overcoming “challenges of growing up” through “humor and positive thinking”.
Gigglebug is a free download from the App Store for iPhone and iPad to get a taste of its charms, but a single in-app purchase of £1.99 unlocks more characters and a proper story to enjoy.
